You do not have to be a marketing genius to understand the benefits published in leading publications with byline that leads to your site, versus the amount of money you have to spend in advertising to get the same level of exposure.
Somewhat harder to enter Google News this way because you might need to be approved by editorial staff to be published. These publications can request exclusive first rights for your articles or original content. If you are not a writer, or not hire someone full time to write original content, it can be an obstacle.
Reception is also not guaranteed. You can see this as a shortfall, or embrace the fact that it will make it more difficult for competitors to emulate your marketing and steal your thunder.
You might think “but who wants to read stories about the timeshare company or my pet furniture manufacturer.”
And you will be right – they don’t. It’s important for this method for you to find out what you want on the site you want to read, and write for them in areas related to your product or service.
